STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN UKRAINE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC RELATIONS: HISTORICAL DIMENSION

The evolution of the economic structure of Ukraine in the context of the development of international economic relations is analyzed. The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of mutual influence and interdependence of foreign economic activity and structural changes in the economy at different stages of the historical development of Ukraine, tracing the occurrence of objective prerequisites of modern structural changes in the context of world market development. The domestic experience of structural reforms in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is summarized, the impact of these reforms and historically determined structural changes in the Ukrainian economy on the degree and nature of Ukraine's participation in the international division of labor is determined, the influence of world trends and challenges of economic development on the restructuring of the Ukrainian economy is determined.
It is found that the export orientation of economic development in 1880–1890 provided a rapid replenishment of the currency of the state, but in the future it fixed the structural imbalances in the economy and its dependence on foreign machine-building firms. The industrialization of the 1930s helped to balance the sectoral structure of the economy and reduce its import dependence, but did not change the agrarian and raw materials specialization of Ukrainian exports and did not create the foundations of a self-sufficient national economy, increasing its dependence on the Union structures. Occupying a significant place in the Union division of labor, in the period 1950–1980, Ukraine exported to the member countries of the Comecon mainly the commodities of raw materials industries: agrarian, iron ore, metallurgical, and coal. The current structure of Ukraine's economy remains low-tech and disproportionate with signs of de-industrialization, which testifies to its semi-colonial nature.
It is concluded that structural transformations due to the export of raw materials and shallow technological processing lead to the depletion of the resource base of the economy without filling the domestic market, preserve the chronic backwardness of national production and the absence of real economic sovereignty.
