REMEMBERING OLHA BALAKIREVA

We are deeply saddened to announce that on April 8, 2022, Olha Balakiryeva, Ph.D. (Sociology), member of the editorial board of the “Economy of Ukraine” journal, passed away.
Until recently, she headed the Department of Monitoring-Based Research on Socio-Economic Transformations, where she had worked since its inception at the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Mathematician by education, in her practical activity she was a sociologist by vocation, with extensive experience of work in NGOs and international organizations. She possessed high creativity and energy. Ms. Balakiryeva had time for everything – the academic research of the Institute, when a huge number of field monitoring studies were conducted, the results of which were in demand among most news agencies of Ukraine; she chaired the boards of the Yaremenko Ukrainian Institute for Social Research and the “Social Monitoring” Center. For twenty years in a row she held the position of editor-in-chief of the “Ukrainian Society” journal. Olha M. Balakiryeva always remained a person with own position who never let anybody rest on laurels and get stuck in a rut.
We express our sincere condolences to the family, the department, and the entire sociological community.
