Global fragmentation trends are characterized in contrast to previous globalization trends. Globalization processes continue to exist in the world, but under the regional and country restraints. On the eve of the 2020s, world economic thought already debated the prospects for development in the conditions of so-called slowbalization (slow globalization). An active use of sanctions regime defines certain countries not only as unfavorable for economic activity, but also as virtually excluded from the globalization process. There are real shifts of economic power centers. Nowadays, theoretical and practical fragmentation is being increasingly discussed. In fact, the world is undergoing increasing economic fragmentation, which acts as a counterweight to traditional globalization processes. Fragmentation is one of the significant consequences of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and has the potential to cause the division of the world into geopolitical blocs with their own technical standards, reserve currencies and payment systems.
