SCIENCE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMY OF UKRAINE AND OTHER INDIVIDUAL COUNTRIES

Analysis of the achievements of many leading economies provides an opportunity to draw a clear conclusion: science in today's environment is a strategically important resource of the state, and the level of scientific and technological development of the country forms one of the components of national security.
The Ukrainian economy has been in deep decline over the 30-year reform period, while the economies of many of the world's leading countries are showing high growth rates, ensuring a decent level of well-being for their citizens. The research results prove that science plays a crucial role in the development of economies in today's globalized world –– through the development, improvement, and creation of high-performance equipment, new technologies, and ensuring innovative development and high efficiency of competitive production in domestic and export enterprises.
Statistics show the scarcity of funds allocated for research and development in Ukraine on all existing funding sources. Analytical studies revealed a catastrophic lag of Ukraine from countries with highly developed economies in terms of funding for science, indicators of knowledge-intensive GDP, production and exports of high-tech products, inflows from exports of products and services per capita, due primarily to the decline of domestic science.
It is concluded that in the system of strategic state measures to ensure vital economic growth, increase citizens' welfare, the future of Ukraine, the priority should be the immediate restoration of science to its current level in economically developed countries.
