DO MODERN MASTERS OF ECONOMICS NEED KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICAL METHODS AND MODELS?

The scientific component of the educational and scientific program of the Master of Economics should include a variety of research tools, including knowledge and skills in the application of mathematical and statistical methods and models in economic research. However, such competence of graduates is absent according to the standards of higher education in specialties 076 "Entrepreneurship, trade and exchange activities", 051 "Economics", 073 "Management". As a result, scientific disciplines related to mathematical and statistical modeling and forecasting of economic indicators have disappeared from educational programs and training plans for future masters. This situation is wrong both for the Ukrainian economy in general and for economic education in particular. It requires prompt adjustment of higher education standards in order to include in the educational and professional programs of masters the study of mathematical and statistical methods and models of economic processes and phenomena at all levels of management. This will broaden the general professional horizons of graduates and allow them to use modern quantitative methods, models and computer programs in business to justify optimal management decisions.
