TO THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CORRESPONDING MEMBER OF THE NAS OF UKRAINE MYKHAILO ZVERYAKOV AND THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

January 4, 2022 marks the 70th anniversary of a prominent scientist, organizer of higher education in Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of General Economic Theory and Economic Policy of the Odessa National University of Economics, Rector of the Odessa National University of Economics from 2000 to 2021 Mykhailo Zveryakov.
The jubilee was born in 1952 in the village of Sofiyivka of the Mykolaivka district of the Odessa Oblast. He graduated from the Odessa Institute of National Economy in 1975, defended his PhD dissertation in 1980, and has been a doctoral candidate at the Odessa National University of Economics since 1992. He continued his scientific work at the University of Cologne (Germany) from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and in 1996 defended his doctoral dissertation, the following year he became a professor at the Department of General Economic Theory, and in 2000 he was elected rector of his native university, the Odessa National University of Economics. Mykhailo Zveryakov worked in this position for 21 years, making the Institute of National Economy a real university, widely known both in Ukraine and abroad.
The research interests of the jubilee are focused on the study of socio-economic problems of the modern economy, transitional forms, macroeconomic proportions, monetary relations, problems of the banking sector. He is the author of more than 210 scientific and methodological works, including those indexed in SCOPUS and the Web of Science. Under his personal leadership, eight fundamental scientific research works were commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, scientific-theoretical and methodological conclusions of which are included in the Concept of Economic Development of Ukraine developed by him, taking into account its historical traditions and competitive advantages. Under the scientific guidance of Mykhailo Zveryakov, 11 doctoral and nine candidate dissertations were defended.
Mykhailo Zveryakov is the editor-in-chief of the ONUE professional collection of scientific papers, the “Socio-Economic Research Bulletin”, member of the editorial boards of the scientific bulletin of the Odessa National University of Economics, all-Ukrainian monthly journal “Economy of Ukraine”, scientific journal “Economy and Forecasting”, interdepartmental journal “Economic Theory”.
